Copyright.

This little post is in response to Elizabeth's comments about copyright.

I know that there's a certain risk, publishing my art on the web, but in order to get my work known, I have to weigh up the risk against the benefit of maybe selling some of my pieces or somehow generating some interest. This is the problem facing many artists today, and there are several I know publishing their lovely paintings knowing that their style is instantly recognised as their own. My most special work is kept very much just for me.

It's all about respecting ideas and having a sort of honour. That's all I'm asking for, for my blog and others :)

I enjoy the sharing of artwork, influences and ideas. There is a risk when posting on the web but I enjpoy receiving the comments and lea from how opinions differ. I post what i think of as failures as well as successes and am often surprised that others are more favourable than i am on myself.

There is a copy right button that you ca get for free that does give some legal advice if needed. I have it at the bottom of my page so it is not obtrusive. If you are interested just click on the image and it will take you to their web page.

Yes, it's a balancing act. It's easy for me, as I only post poetry when it's been published elsewhere - or if I decide that I really want to share it, regardless of risk.
Naomi suggested putting a watermark behind the image when you upload it,so that it's hard to grab, and can't simply be reproduced, but I have to say I don't know how to go about this

Thank you for the lovely comments everyone and for your daughter's advice Elizabeth. I am constantly reminded how many wonderful and caring bloggers there are and this is what I love so much about the communities we create :)

I don't make crafts to sell so only my photos could be used. One or two people have asked to use them and others may have done so. If so I'm flattered more than anything:) But then I'm not trying to sell them! I think the pros of getting your work in the public eye probably outweigh the problems of copyright.

Thank you for sharing your art! I love to see it and I so agree, art is for sharing. We have to trust a bit. You have your own style and I find it charming!
